Sometimes things can feel really challenging - maybe unexpected events have thrown things off or problems that were in the background have become more pronounced. At Marka Clinical Psychologists we welcome anyone who wishes to talk about challenges they face, either long-standing or more recent.
The overall aim of the practice is to help improve people's wellbeing through a combination of evidence-based psychological strategies and approaches, as well as through personal insights and reflections.
Clinical psychology sessions at Marka are oriented towards cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
"Marka" is an old norse word which means a forested space or woodland - a space for exploring and reflection.
What to expect from psychology sessions at Marka Clinical Psychologists
Psychology sessions will include evidence based interventions with the aim of improving your wellbeing. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the main approach used in sessions, while also borrowing some simpler concepts and strategies from related therapy approaches as indicated, such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy*
It is important to identify the intervention approach that works best for you. This process includes an initial assessment session that we can use as a foundation for working together. Thereon, therapy sessions may follow either a more structured approach (particularly when working with anxiety disorders), or may be more flexible so there is space to talk through and explore topics or issues, including trialling potentially helpful strategies.
(If you are a bit unsure whether psychological therapy is for you, it is completely fine to book in an initial session or two to try it out. There is no expectation that you proceed with therapy or multiple sessions once you schedule an appointment.)
*Neither DBT, ACT, nor Schema Therapy are provided as a standalone psychological interventions by this practice.
